BirSitem user guide

Every step, from building your site to publishing it, and from connecting a domain to reading your messages. If you can't find what you're looking for, write to our support team.

1. Getting started

With BirSitem, you build your website without writing any code, by dragging and dropping ready-made sections. Your site is published at yourname.birsitem.com, with hosting and SSL (secure connection) included.

  1. Create a free account and verify your email address using the link we send you.
  2. In your dashboard, give your site a name and an address, and choose a template that suits your business.
  3. Change the text and images in the editor to make them your own.
  4. Click Publish; the first time you publish, your site goes through a short review.

If you'd like to try it without signing up, open the demo editor. The design you create there is saved in your browser; when you create an account, you can import it into your site with the “My design from the demo” option.

Every new site comes with a free 14-day trial. You can have up to 3 free addresses at the same time (sites on a trial and the addresses that redirect to them). There is no limit on sites you have paid for or on the addresses that redirect to them.

2. Creating a site and templates

In the Create a new site section of your dashboard, you choose three things: the site's name, its address and its template.

  • Address: may contain lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens. Choose a short address that is as close as possible to your brand name; if the address is already taken, the form will let you know.
  • Template: the template gallery is grouped by industry, from hair salons to plumbers and from résumés to content creator pages. Each template comes with sections and sample text suited to its industry.

A template is just a starting point: you can delete any section, add new ones and change the colors. If you'd rather start from scratch, choose the Blank page template.

3. The editor

The editor has three areas. The first time you open it, a short guided tour walks you through each one.

  • Left: Blocks. Ready-made sections you can add to your site, each with a small preview. Grab a block and drag it to wherever you want it on the page.
  • Center: Your page. A live view of your site. Click a section to select it; use the tools on it to duplicate or delete it, or drag it to move it.
  • Right: Content settings. The text, images and background tone of the selected section. When no section is selected, the page title and search engine description are shown here.

Top bar

  • Use the phone / tablet / desktop icons to check how your site looks on every screen.
  • The undo / redo arrows bring back your latest changes.
  • Save draft keeps your changes without publishing them; Publish sends them to your live site.
  • The ? button restarts the guided tour.

The “Outline” tab on the left lists the sections on the page in order; on long pages, it's the quickest way to find a section.

4. Blocks

Blocks are grouped under seven headings:

  • Header area: announcement bar, menu, hero (main image and headline), slider.
  • Introduction: services, image + text (about us), steps, checklist, numbers, team, experience timeline, skills, customer testimonials, client logos, frequently asked questions.
  • Pricing and products: price list, packages, product cards, call-to-action banner.
  • Media: gallery, video, video gallery, embedded content, map.
  • Contact and footer area: contact section, contact form, opening hours, social media, quick contact buttons (phone and WhatsApp), footer.
  • Basic elements: heading, text, button, image.
  • Layout: section, columns, spacer. Place basic elements inside these to build your own layout.

Menu layouts

Select the menu block and pick the layout that suits your site under Menu layout:

  • Classic: logo on the left, links on the right.
  • Centered: logo centered at the top, links below it.
  • Bar: logo and button at the top, with a colored menu bar below.
  • Drawer: only the menu button is visible; the links slide in from the side.
  • Side menu: stays fixed on the left on computers, with the page content flowing beside it. A good fit for résumé and portfolio sites.

The menu can be dragged like any other block: for example, if you drop it below the slider, the page opens with the slider, the menu sits beneath it and sticks to the top of the screen as visitors scroll down. You also choose the menu's background tone and whether it stays at the top from the same panel. On phones, every layout turns into a logo and a menu button.

Menu links

Links in the top menu go to sections on the page. In the link field, type section names such as #hizmetler, #galeri, #fiyatlar or #iletisim; to go to another page, use its path, such as /hakkimizda, and for a phone number use the format tel:05321234567.

5. Images, cropping and the library

An image field gives you three options:

  • Upload from computer: JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF or AVIF. Photos are resized automatically before they are uploaded, so even a large photo taken with your phone uploads without any trouble.
  • Choose from library: industry photos and animated images that you can use free of charge.
  • Paste a URL: you can enter the link to an image on the web directly.

Cropping

An image you upload opens in the crop window first. The Recommended ratio is the one that fits exactly into the space where the image will appear on your site. Drag the image to reposition it, use the slider to zoom, or pick a square, wide or portrait ratio if you prefer. You can re-crop an image you uploaded earlier with the Crop button.

Animated GIF files are not cropped; they are uploaded as they are, because cropping would remove the animation.

6. Video and embedded content

  • Video: paste a YouTube or Vimeo link. Short videos (Shorts) and live stream links work too.
  • Video gallery: shows several YouTube videos in a grid with their thumbnails. Channel owners can add a “Go to channel” button.
  • Embedded content: places a page from another service on your site, such as a booking calendar, a Google Form, a Spotify playlist, a map or a live stream. Just paste the link or the <iframe> code provided by the service. For security, only addresses starting with https:// are accepted.

7. Theme: colors and fonts

The Theme button in the editor's top bar controls your site's entire look in one place: preset themes, primary color, accent color, light or dark background, heading and body fonts, and corner roundness.

Changing the theme doesn't touch your content; all sections adapt to the new colors automatically. Use each section's “Background” setting (plain, lightly tinted, brand color, dark) to create rhythm on the page.

Blog, news and announcements

To publish regular content on your site, use the Posts section in your site's dashboard (the Posts button in the editor's top bar takes you to the same place). There are three types: blog post, news and announcement.

  • Writing: click “New post”; enter the title and, if you like, a short summary and a cover image, then write the text. You can use bold / italic, headings, lists, quotes, links and images in the text.
  • Publishing: “Publish” sends the post to your site; “Save as draft” only saves it. You can edit a published post at any time or move it back to drafts.
  • Showing posts on your site: add the Blog / news / announcements block to your page in the editor. In the block, you choose which type to show, how many posts appear and the layout (cards, list, featured); new posts are added to the list automatically, with no need to republish the page.
  • Featured: if you tick “Make featured” on a post, it takes the largest spot in the “Featured” layout.

Each post opens on its own page at /yazi/post-address; your site's menu and footer appear on these pages too. All posts are listed at /yazilar, and by type at /blog, /haberler and /duyurular. Posts are added to your sitemap and can appear individually on Google. To build a blog or news site, simply place this block on your home page in the “Featured” layout.

Posts are available on multi-page plans and during the trial; they are not available on the one-page plan.

Motion effects

When the Transitions setting in the Theme window is on, cards and headings on your site fade in smoothly as visitors scroll, cards lift slightly on hover, and answers to frequently asked questions slide open. These effects add no extra load and don't affect your page speed; they turn off automatically for visitors who have enabled “reduce motion” on their device. If you prefer a static look, set the option to “Static”.

8. Pages

In the Pages section of your site's dashboard, you add new pages (e.g. About us, Services), edit them or delete them. Each page has its own title and search engine description.

The Starter plan is for one-page sites; for multiple pages, you need to upgrade to the Business plan. During the trial, you can try a multi-page site as well.

9. Publishing and approval

When you click Publish in the editor, your page goes live. You can take the whole site online or offline from your dashboard with Put online or Take offline.

Every site is reviewed by our team before it goes live for the first time; sites containing illegal or misleading content are not approved. You are informed of the result by notification and email.

Your site's status is shown with a label in your dashboard: Draft, Pending approval, Live, Not approved or Expired.

10. Your own domain

On the Business plan, you can publish your site on your own domain (e.g. yourbusiness.com). You may have bought the domain from any provider; there is no need to transfer it to us.

  1. Enter your domain in the Connect your own domain section of your site's dashboard.
  2. Add the DNS records shown on screen in the control panel of the provider you bought your domain from.
  3. Click Verify. DNS changes can take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours to propagate.

Once verification is complete, an SSL certificate is set up automatically; your birsitem.com address keeps working as well.

11. Plans and payment

  • Starter (personal and business card sites): $9 per year or $1 per month. One-page site, All themes and blocks, Contact form.
  • Business (small businesses): $15 per year or $2 per month. Multi-page site, up to 50 pages, Services, price list, gallery, Connect your own domain.

Payment

Online card payments are coming soon. Until then, you can use the free trial to build and publish your site; we'll email you as soon as payments open, and you can activate your plan from the Plan section of your site's dashboard.

You receive a reminder 3 days before your plan expires. If it expires, your site is taken offline but your content is not deleted; when you renew the plan, the site goes back online where it left off.

12. Contact form and messages

When you add the Contact or Contact form block to your page, your visitors can write to you directly from your site. Incoming messages are:

  • listed in the Messages section of your site's dashboard,
  • shown as a notification on the bell icon,
  • also sent to your email address.

The form includes name, phone, email, message and (optionally) a topic selection. You set the topic options in the Contact form block's settings by writing one topic per line; if you leave it empty, no topic is asked.

Privacy notice and terms of use consent

Before submitting the form, visitors separately accept the Privacy Notice (KVKK) and the Terms of Use; clicking a document's name opens the full text in a window. Their consents are saved together with the message and shown below it in your dashboard. You can turn the consent checkboxes on or off in the block's settings.

You manage these texts in the Legal texts section of your site's dashboard: you can write the text or upload your own document (PDF or Word). If you don't enter anything, a general draft is shown. The texts are also published on your site at /kvkk and /kullanim-sartlari, and the footer links to these pages. The draft is only a starting point; preparing texts that suit your business is your responsibility.

The Quick contact block adds fixed phone and WhatsApp buttons to the corner of your site, so visitors on a phone can call you with a single tap.

Footer and social media

In the Footer block, you set the layout (columns, centered, minimal), the background tone, two link columns, your contact details and your social media accounts yourself. Social media icons come in four styles: round, square, in the brand's own color, or the icon together with the account name. The same styles are available in the Social media block.

13. Visitor statistics

In your site's dashboard, you can see page views and visitor numbers for the last 30 days, a daily chart and your most visited pages. Search engine bots are not counted. No cookies are used for counting, and no personal data of your visitors is stored.

14. Google and sharing settings

  • Page title and description: shown on the right in the editor when no section is selected. This title and description appear in Google results; write a short sentence that mentions your business and your city.
  • Tab icon (favicon) and share image: uploaded in the Site identity and search engines section of your site's dashboard. The share image appears when your link is shared on WhatsApp or social media.
  • Google Search Console: paste the verification code from the “HTML tag” method into the same section, then add the sitemap address shown to you to Search Console.
  • Google Analytics: enter your measurement ID starting with G- in the same section. Your visitors are asked for cookie consent, and analytics runs only for those who agree.
  • Done automatically: each page is reported to Google with a single canonical address (your own domain, if you have one); the phone number, address and social media accounts in your contact section are added to the page in a format search engines understand.

15. Notifications

In the following cases, you see a notification on the bell icon in your dashboard and also receive an email:

  • when a message arrives through your site's contact form,
  • when your site is approved or not approved,
  • when your payment is confirmed,
  • when your plan or trial is about to expire and when it expires,
  • when the status of your support request changes.

If you don't want to receive these emails, you can turn them off under My account › Notifications; notifications will still appear in your dashboard.

16. Account and security

  • Profile and password: change your name, phone number and password on the My account page. You are asked for your current password when changing it.
  • Email code at sign-in: when enabled, you also enter a one-time code sent to your email after your password. It is required for your first three sign-ins; after that, you can turn it off on the My account page.
  • Forgot password: the link on the sign-in page sends a reset link to your email.
  • Deleting a site: confirm by typing the site's name in the “Delete site” section at the very bottom of the site page. The site is taken offline immediately and kept in the trash for 7 days; during this time, you can request its restoration from the “Deleted sites” section of the My sites page. After that, the site is permanently deleted.
  • Deleting your account: confirm by entering your password and email address in the “Delete account” section at the bottom of the My account page. Your account and sites are closed immediately and kept for 7 days; during this time, you can have them restored through the support form. After that, all your data is permanently deleted.

17. Frequently asked questions

Do I need to know how to code?

No. Everything is done by dragging and dropping and filling in forms.

Can I remove the “Made with BirSitem” notice at the bottom of my site?

This notice appears on all sites and cannot be removed; it helps us keep our prices low.

Will my site be deleted when my trial ends?

No. The site is taken offline but your content stays; it goes back online when you purchase a plan.

Can I change the template later?

The template is your site's starting content. Later on, you can change the theme (colors and fonts) however you like and add or remove sections one by one. To start with a completely different template, you can create a new site.

What if I don't have any photos?

Use “Choose from library” in any image field to pick from free photos suited to your industry.

Can I add my YouTube videos to my site?

Yes. Use the “Video” block to show a single video, or the “Video gallery” block to show the videos on your channel with their thumbnails.

How do I contact support?

Fill out the support form; our reply will be sent to your email address. If you're a member, you can track the status of your requests on the Support page in your dashboard.
